If there is one thing I’ve come to understand, it is that a good morning routine is a must for Christian girlies. For me, it sets the tone for the whole day – if I can’t do my morning routine for some reason, I just don’t feel right. I did a post about my morning routine last year, but my routine has changed a bit since then, so I decided to do an updated version of my morning routine.
Morning Routing – Wake Up
I wake up anywhere from 5AM to after noon, depending on the day of the week, whether I’m in school or not, and whether or not my brain shuts down so I can sleep1Undiagnosed, but highly suspected ADHD + complex sleep apnea + delayed sleep phase disorder means I don’t sleep the way I should.. I use my phone for my alarm clock and often hit my snooze button2On my Apple Watch because I use my phone for my alarm and it buzzes my watch. but sometimes I hit the “stop” button instead and end up sleep another hour or three. However, once I wake up, I’m generally up for the day. I say Good Morning/Good Afternoon to God, then sit up.
Meds
I tend to check my blood glucose and take me morning meds as soon as I get up. I do this because I have noticed that I will completely forget to do so if I wait. So once I sit up, this is generally the first thing I do. Once I’m finished with this, I head for the bathroom.
Morning Routine – Skin Care
Since I am rather lazy, once I head for the bathroom, I will brush my teeth, brush my hair, and do my skin care. I do it this way because I don’t want to have to come back to the bathroom later to handle the skin care part of my morning. My morning skin care is cleanser, toner, Vitamin C serum, and SPF 30 face cream with hyaluronic acid & peptides. Then it is back to my room.
Keurig
I have a Keurig in my room, so I will make herbal tea, hot chocolate, or a mocha3Run a hot cocoa k-cup through the Keurig, then add a packet of Folgers instant coffee to it, plus four creamers because I’m a creamer girlie. to drink while I do my Bible study. If it is hot (meaning too hot for Keurig drinks), I will grab a soda or Monster Energy out of my mini-fridge4Zero Sugar Monster Energy, and I don’t even drink one every day anymore. The sodas are usually caffeine free Zevia sodas.. I make my bed while the Keurig is doing its thing.
Bible Study
It may seem like I’m doing a lot before I get to my Bible study, but it doesn’t take me that long. I generally get to my Bible study within an hour of waking up. My Bible study starts off with reading a prayer card, highlighting the prayer card scripture in my Bible, and prayer. Then I’ll read a devotional. This year’s devotional is Starting Your Day Right: Devotions of Each Morning of the Year by Joyce Meyer.
Next, if the month has 31 days, I read a chapter out of Proverbs. I do my Bible writing after that, then do my Bible reading plan. Following my Bible reading plan, I work on whatever Bible study manual I’m currently in. Right now it is NavPress’ LifeChange series manual for the book of Acts. I’ll read the current lesson’s scripture in a different Bible translation each day5Sunday = NLT, Monday = NIV, Tuesday = ESV, Wednesday = KJV, Thursday = NASB, Friday = AMP, Saturday = The Message, and then answer anywhere from one to three questions. Once that is finished, my morning Bible study is finished.
Breakfast
I admit, I’m not much of a breakfast girlie. Fortunately, my morning routine has me eating after everything else. This gives my body time to actually want food. When I go downstairs and fix myself breakfast, it is usually either a yogurt bowl or eggs.
Yogurt bowls are non-fat vanilla Greek Yogurt, frozen berries, probiotic granola, cinnamon, and honey. I do make another one that is mini-shredded wheat instead of granola and add pepitas and mini chocolate chips to it. If I’m having eggs, there are a few ways I’ll eat those. One is fried on toast. Another is scrambled with cheese. The third way is fried on top of toast spread with a mixture of hummus and avocado. Occasionally I’ll have an overnight oatmeal for breakfast instead of eggs or yogurt bowls.
So that’s my morning routine. It’s changed a bit since the last post, but not too much. What do you do for your morning routine with Jesus? Are you someone who jumps out of bed and immediately does Bible study? Or are you someone who does a couple of things before Bible study to make sure you’re fully awake?
