I don’t know about you, but I watch a lot of Christian YouTube videos and one thing I see a lot of, especially from women, are videos of morning routines with God and Jesus. Well, I don’t feel like making a video, but I do want to give an idea of what my morning routine with God and Jesus is like.
My Morning Routine with God and Jesus – Wake Up
I try to wake up between 5 and 7am, but it really depends on what is going on. Right now, I’m out of school, so I haven’t been keeping to my night routine very well. That means I don’t go to bed as early as I should. But lately my body has been waking me up no later than 7:45am, so I’m still getting started relatively early. When I first wake up, I head for the bathroom, use the facilities, brush my teeth, comb my hair, and head back to my bedroom. I put on my cross necklace and check my phone1A habit I only have because my college sends out notifications at 6AM if there are delayed starts or cancellations due to weather., then grab a Monster Energy drink out of my mini fridge2Yes, I know, Monster Energy isn’t “good for me”. I drink one per day, and they are zero sugar..
Bible Study
After grabbing the Monster from the mini fridge, I sit at my desk and do my morning meds3So I won’t forget. I’ve learned that if I don’t do them before Bible study, I will forget to take them.. After morning meds, I go to Spotify, Pandora, or YouTube to find a Christian playlist or put a Christian CD in my stereo to listen to while I have my Bible study time.
After getting some music playing, I pull out one of the prayer cards I got from Dollar Tree4Some Dollar Tree stores have them, some don’t. The ones that do seem to get two new sets of 20 cards/set roughly every 40-60 days. I currently own eight sets of prayer cards from Dollar Tree. and read the scripture written on it. I reflect on the scripture for a moment, then I bow my head and start praying, doing my best to incorporate the scripture on the prayer card into my prayer.
After my prayer, I pick up my devotional book and read the day’s devotional. For 2024, the book is Jesus Calling by Sarah Young. After reading the devotional, I grab my Kindle Fire 7 tablet and I pull up the Kindle app to read one of the Christian non-fictions books that I have obtained through NetGalley. I read one chapter per day. As of this post, I am currently working through Do the New You: Six Mindsets to Become Who You Were Created to Be by Steven Furtick. I previously worked through 15 Ways to Live Longer and Healthier by Joel Osteen and Gratitude by Cornelius Plantiga.
Once I’ve finished with the chapter for the day, I move on to my scripture writing and reading plans. The scripture writing plans I use are from Sweet Blessings and this year’s reading plan is from Busy Blessed Women. I write the scriptures from the scripture writing plan in a 5-subject notebook, and when I read the scriptures from the reading plan, I highlight them in my Bible.
After finishing that, it is time for my Bible study manual. Right now I am working through the Lifechange series by NavPress and I’m studying Genesis. I start by reading the lesson’s passage in one of the eight translations of the Bible I generally use, then move back to my NIV “daily reader” Bible to answer the questions for the day. I do anywhere from 1-3 questions per day, dependent upon how many questions the lesson for the week has in total. Once I’ve finished that, I’m done with my Bible study/time with God & Jesus for the morning.
My Morning Routine with God and Jesus – Why I Do This
I find that I feel better, am less anxious, less frustrated and angry with the world, and less likely to make poor choices when I spend some time with God & Jesus before starting my day. I feel that I am growing closer to God & Jesus through my quiet time in the mornings.
I do my quiet time seven days a week, but I know some people who only do theirs five or six days a week. I find that if I don’t have my quiet time every day, I tend to skip it more and more until I am not doing it anymore. However, how often you do your quiet time is totally up to you and what works best for you.
Do you have anything special you do for your quiet time with God & Jesus? If you do, let me know what it is down in the comments.
